Overview of position:

We are seeking instructors for our two week camp taking place in Winnipeg on August 13-17, August 20-24. Activities during the two-week camp include archery, swimming, bowling, soccer, and arts & crafts.

Under the direction and supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Summer Camp Instructors are responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and support to children with special needs. For Week 1 each Summer Camp Instructor will be paired with two children; one camper for the morning session, and one camper for the afternoon session. For Week 2, each Summer Camp Instructor will be paired with one or two children for the day.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the safety and well-being of campers throughout the camp
  • Providing leadership, guidance, supervision, assistance, and actively participate in all aspects of the camp
  • Learning the specific needs of the campers and adapting activities accordingly
  • Understanding, enforcing and following all safety guidelines and emergency procedures associated with the camp
  • Encouraging respect for personal property, camp equipment, and ensuring the facility is kept clean and organized
  • Communicating with the Camp Director regarding any concerns, updates, and challenges

  • Are able to deal with high stress situations and work well under pressure in a dynamic environment


  • 16 years of age or older
  • Must love working with children
  • Ability to teach and lead various recreational activities
  • The desire and ability to work and problem solve in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere
  • Displays sound judgement and ability to set goals with campers
  • Experience working with youth with special needs is an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR C
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Experience teaching swimming lessons would be an asset
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate and/or Lifesaving Society Instructor Certificate would be assets
  • Able to deal with high stress situations and work well under pressure in a quickly changing environment

Salary: $13.00 /hour
